Everything about Roger Frampton that you need to know
Roger Frampton: movement coach
Roger Frampton is a 33 years old movement coach and personal trainer, who has gained fame and notoriety through his revolutionary techniques that are focused on conscious movements.
As a kid, Roger dreamt of becoming a bodybuilder. And as he stated it in his TED talk, not just any bodybuilder, but, he wanted to be like the best one: Arnold Schwarzenegger. So he started his attempt in becoming a bodybuilder as a teen in an old school gym in east London. It was actually at that time, that he was scouted in the streets for being a fashion model, and in order to do so, he was forced to give up on his bodybuilding dream. So prior to his career as a personal trainer, Roger became an international model. And it’s also worth mentioning that he had a successful career as a model too; As he had been working with big fashion companies and manufacturers like Ralph Lauren, Orlebar Brown, and Aquascutum, and he appeared in their ad campaigns for several times.
Roger’s TED talk with over than 2 million views
Roger states that all of us humans are born with perfect spines. In his Ted talk -which is viewed almost 2 and half a million times on YouTube- he talks about his main theories, about the human body and movement. First, he describes why sitting down destroys humankind. He explains that because of the societies and cultures of the modern office life, human bodies get out of shape as they grow older. As a kid, humans have perfect spines that can move in a million different ways. they are unbelievably flexible and fluid and therefore, are pain-free and strong.
He also talks about the J shape and S shape spines. J shaped spine is the natural and unspoiled state of the human spine. S shape spine is a result of abnormal use of the human body in ways that destroy the natural state of the spine and brings it out of shape. The main reason for this problem is merely sitting. Human bodies are very well structured in the first few years of their life because they are not yet forced to sit for long hours in a chair. When we reach to fourth or fifth years of our lives, we start school or pre-school, and so as a result of our culture and modern life, we start sitting for at least six or seven hours in a chair, which as Roger says is a very awkward position for human bodies.
He also talks about the fact that the bodybuilding industry is actually not doing anything to counteract this situation. He says that the main focus of the bodybuilding exercises is to strengthen the muscles. The repetition of the moves and the minimum time that body can reach these goals. As a result, there is no focus on the right movements of the body to achieve any of these goals. But as Roger clearly states, to reach all of these goals, the focus should be on the way that body moves. If we can move our bodies in the proper way, it will help the muscles and train them and as a result, strengthen them in the proper way. This way of proper bodybuilding is actually the way that gymnasts build their bodies and so, they have much stronger and well-trained bodies in comparison with bodybuilders.
The flexible body: his best selling book
In his book called ‘the flexible body: move better anywhere, anytime in 10 minutes a day’, which was published in January 2018, Roger explains all these issues and the way we can overcome them, by just doing 10 minutes of well-designed exercises every day. It guides the readers through a series of stretches, positions, and rolls, that will re-train the body to move in the way that it once could. Ever since it’s published, the book has been a best seller in the Amazon website.
Inspired by advanced yoga practitioners and Olympic gymnasts and in consultation with them, Roger developed a simple but very effective set of exercises known as the Frampton method. The main purpose behind these exercises is to remove the restrictions of flexibility and mobility on human bodies caused by the reasons cited above. He intends to bring back the strength and fluidity that we once possessed as a child. And to do so, you don’t need any special equipment, weight sets or any kind of gym membership.
The book is split into two sections, called method and movement. The movement section covers a range of positions from hip actions to headstands. Roger explains how to do each of these positions, and how to take them to the next level as the reader becomes more advanced and his/her body becomes stronger and more flexible. by describing various ways for incorporating these exercises and movements into day-to-day life, the book will inspire the readers to put down weights (weight sets), let go of high-intensity interval training, and achieve a level of fitness that seemed impossible before.
The Frampton Method has been featured in numerous renowned newspapers and magazines; such as The Sunday Times, Esquire, Elle, Men’s Health and GQ, and Roger has also appeared on Sky News & BBC Business.
Nowadays Roger holds monthly workshops in London, in order to help and coach people who are interested in his method and exercises. Tickets for these workshops and many other features like free instructional videos are available for purchase through his website: roger.coach.
