The American model, dancer and actress Shelley Catherine Hennig was born on January 2, 1987, in Metairie, Louisiana, U.S. Her lucky Zodiac sign is Capricorn. She has been active since 2004 until now and is mostly known for her roles in TV series such as Days of Our Lives, Teen Wolf, and The Secret Circle.
Shelley was born in Metairie to a family with German, English, and Italian ancestors. Her father’s name was Glenn H. Hennig Sr. and her mother’s name was Cathy Distefano Gosset. She also had two older brothers named Glenn H. Hennig Jr. and Brad Joseph Hennig. The family first moved to St. Rose, Louisiana and later to Destrehan, Louisiana.
Her brother, Brad, died at the age of 18 because of being hit by a drunk driver. Shelley, then, became an advocate against underage drinking, drug use, and driving under the influence. Her advocacy and social activity regarding these issues was particularly influential for her when she attended a beauty pageant three years later.
Winning Beauty Pageants: First Step towards Fame
In 2004, Shelley participated in the beauty pageant of Miss Louisiana Teen USA and won the competition’s award. Later on, she competed for the USA Miss Teen and won the award to be the first girl from Louisiana who wins a national beauty pageant title since 1996. As mentioned previously, her activities in societies related to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) helped her win the award more easily.
During the following year, her awards included signing a one year contract with Trump Modeling Management and scholarship to the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. In the following year, she appeared in several TV programs. She also had a guest appearance in the NBC soap opera, Passions, as Crane Maid. On April 20, 2007, Shelley Hennig joined the famous soap opera, Days of Our Lives, as Stephanie Johnson. Her acting in this TV series was continued for more than 450 episodes until 2011. From 2011 to 2012, she was acting in an MTV TV series, The Secret Circle, as Diana Meade.
In 2013, she added another TV series to her profile, Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous. During these years, she had minor roles in four other TV series of Friend Me (as Isabelle), Blue Bloods (as Maya Lawman), Friends with Better Lives (as Molly James), and Justified (as Jackie Nevada).
In 2014, she acted in two horror movies, named Ouija and Unfriended, both movies about a group of friends haunted by supernatural powers. In 2015, she acted in the drama About Scout as Melinda Riley.

In 2016, Shelley had a role in the romantic comedy drama of Summer of 8, as Lily Hunter. She, then, started acting in an MTV series named Teen Wolf as Malia Tate and another TV series named Liberty Crossing as Carly Ambrose. Shelley was an actress in a crime drama named Roman J. Israel, Esq. (2017) as Olivia Reed.
In 2018, she acted in a Netflix romantic comedy drama named When We First Met as Carrie Grey alongside Adam Devine and Alexandra Daddario. She also played in a musical comedy named The After Party as Alicia Levine and the comedy False Profits as Hilary Jenkle. She is also a part of the comedy TV series named Dollface as Romona during 2019. The TV series is still in its filming phase.

Shelley Hennig has been a nominee for the Daytime Emmy Awards twice in 2010 and 2012, both for Outstanding Younger Actress for her part in the TV series Days of Our Lives. Moreover, she has been nominated for Teen Choice Awards again for two times in 2016 and 2017 for Choice Summer TV Star: Female for her part in the TV series Teen Wolf. Besides acting, she has worked in other areas, such as making music videos. Shelley collaborated with The Hunger Games’ actor Alexander Ludwig in The Band Perry’s music video for “Gentle on My Mind” in 2014. Shelley also worked with Maren Morris in the music video of “I Could Use a Love Song” in 2017.
She was in a relationship with the actor, singer, and songwriter Jay Kenneth Johnson for six years, from 2007 to 2012. It was rumored that she was in a relationship with the actor of Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles Thomas Dekkar in 2012; however, it is not yet confirmed. In 2013, it was rumored that Shelley started dating Ben McKenzie. Nonetheless, neither Shelley nor Ben confirmed the rumor. In 2014, it was also rumored that she was in a relationship with her Teen Wolf co-actor Dylan O’Brien. Later, Dylan and Shelley denied the rumor and stated that they were and still are only good friends.
Shelley Hennig is a good poet and published a number of her poems in the Young Authors Book of Poetry when she was younger. She is also a fast typist and regularly competes online in order to maintain her typing skill. Shelley is a close friend of her fellow stars Dylan O’Brien, Tyler Posey, and Arden Cho.
